Mantel Painting
The living room in my parents' house in Alpharetta is has some pretty impressive wall space--it might go up 20 feet or so. Ever since we moved here, it's been pretty obviously empty. A few years ago, when I first got into painting and still thought I was the shit, my mom asked me to do a significantly sized triptych of paintings for her to put up there. Then I realized how much I actually have to learn, and for a considerable amount of time, I would inwardly cringe every time I passed it or any time my parents pointed it out to guests. So, around last Christmas, I got some more canvases, and decided to start over, so to speak.
This has been in the making for about eight months (though by no means is that how long I've worked on it--there have been huuuuge gaps: working on portfolio, trips in the beginning of the summer, whenever I'm downtown...). It's pretty much something I do when I'm bored or up late in Alpharetta. But now, surprise, surprise, I'm getting more tired of looking at the old painting than I am dissatisfied with this one, so I'm going to finish it up in the next week or so and start something else.
This looks a little weird because I didn't line them up right, but here's what I have so far:

Also...
some non-sequitur thoughts:
Google+ is way better than facebook, and i wish more people were on it. Right now you still have to be invited, but just comment with your email (it may or may not have to be gmail) and i'll hook you up for the sake of the common good.
i really need to come up with an actual blog design instead of using Blogger's default. this is getting a bit sad.
stuff i'm going to do/have been doing this summer that i'll add pictorial evidence of later:
-not selling anything, apparently. (there's not going to be a picture for this, i'm just kindof bitter about it. though really, it's my own fault for watching netflix and going to europe instead of paying $65 for a booth that may or may not sell art. i really have no argument for this personal injustice.)
-finally creating (hopefully a couple) cohesive bodies of traditional artwork. everything i have is either super old, and therefore unworthy to see the light of day, ridiculously random, or not finished at all. and that doesn't do anyone any good. i haven't actually started on this bullet yet, but netflix is being cancelled after today, so hopefully i can whip some stuff out in the month before school starts.
-finishing a triptych to replace the old one currently over my parents' mantle (that i finished in about 2 days and didn't put much effort into, even though it's pointed out to everyone who comes to our house.)
-designing and painting a wall mural thing for my mom's living room. i've been procrastinating this one for months under the argument that of all the steps i should spend the most time on, designing should be it. so i just keep tweaking a 75% finished design and forgetting to bring it to alpharetta, never really moving on because i live in fear of painting the wall with something i'll find a million mistakes in and hate three weeks after its finished.
-watching a ridiculous amount of tv and movies. i thought about trying to list everything, but even if i pulled up netflix's recently watched list so i wouldn't have to remember everything, that's just too much typing (ironic, since this is the longest blog post in months, if not the history of this blog, period)
-get an epson 1400 printer. hells no am i being chained to the digital aquarium for the next two years of my life. they defs aren't open at 2:30am, which is when i usually finish things.
-get some impressive use out of my pool. emphasis on the night swimming.
-stop writing this list and actually finish some stuff. damn.
