day in the life: a screenshot documentary

So isn't any one specific way a creative day in my life goes-- it depends if its a weekday and I have class, or its a weekend and I'm just at my apartment attempting productivity all day, or if I have to work around something else that was planned, or if I'm in Alpharetta, etc etc. But, since I forgot to take pictures on Thursday, this specific day is going to be rather repetitive and not very exciting. Actually, any day that I'm really productive design-wise would be really boring to blog about--I'm just on my computer all day going between movies, random bookmarks, and the Adobe Suite. I usually also clean my apartment if I start to feel some carpal tunnel coming on haha

12:30 - Woke up.

1:00 - Check Facebook, Gmail, Graphic Exchange, my Amazon wishlists, my downloads, etc. This always ends up taking longer than I expect...I bought a sweet book though!

3:00 - Open all the .ai files I'd like to finish this today. This is actually a terrible idea, and Illustrator crashes. I'm blaming it on my tendency to embed images instead of linking and putting 5 or 6 artboards in one file. I really need to quit doing that.

4:00 - Download some Swedish House Mafia, Excision, and Michal Menert, since I won some tickets to go see him in November a couple days ago.

4:30 - Actually start working on stuff: back label for Angeline, rave poster, and Belle Armoire website.

5:00 - My mom calls me on her way back from the airport--apparently she's taking me to Alpharetta for a couple hours. Awesome, free groceries!

7:00 - Go to Barnes & Noble to look for a book on poster design. Even though they've made the graphic design section smaller, it has some awesome stuff. You can't find anything for under $30 or $40 though, which is sad. Here's some pictures of cool pages from one of the books that I didn't have enough money to buy haha

8:00 - Dinner (I had some crazy Thanksgiving sandwich) and groceries.

9:00 - Drive back downtownnn

10:00 - Back to work... I started this blog entry. I went go take some screenshots and got distracted by actually working on stuff (a definite change), so here's some changes to the back label of Angeline:

I think it's going to be pretty low key-- every time I try to make the text look interesting it just looks like I'm trying too hard.

11:00 - Opened the poster file and Illustrator froze. Clearly something is going on here. Anyway, here's a couple artboards of a different direction I'm trying:

And here's a screen of what I had last time I checked this file out. Which was yesterday, since it still hasn't loaded yet.

And now, as predicted, a cleaning break. Screw you, Illustrator.

12:00 - Checked out the book I bought today: I Love Futura. Some sweet stuff in there.
Also went to LooksLikeGoodDesign. Pete Harrison, this London designer I may or may not stalk, apparently has a bro, Mike, whose work is awesome! Some examples:

And this guy, Simon Alander. JEALOUS. I need to do more typography, forreals.

1:00 - watched My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Just as awkward as I remember.

2:00 - Illustrator and I have decided to fight. It might get serious.

2:37 - Just went through the little stockpile of mailers and posters and other designed things I have so that it's less chaotic, and finally saved my .ai file, and now I'm going to play with it in Photoshop for about 10 minutes, watch the series premiere of Grimm, and sleeeeeeeep

Belle Armoire

I finished a couple things for Belle Armoire tonight. I think I'm pretty close to being done. Now it's just widows and orphans and making sure everything is cohesive and consistent. Of course, now that I've said this, something terrible will happen and I'll have to start over. Maybe I should get out the external hard drive just to be safe...
