I WANT

a DSLR camera.

self portrait: ...done?

Oh typography. Why are you so feisty? Also, why didn't I pick a picture that color coordinated with my past work? These are the questions that keep me up at night. Literally, I meant to go to sleep an hour and a half ago.

So it turns out...

I don't know how to use Illustrator at all.

Illustrative typeface...

So I bought a whole bunch of fruit and other random food today for the illustrative type project, and I really hope it doesn't start to go bad before I make it into type. Since we haven't even really talked about that yet...

...plus a watermelon.

Timeline: done?

Blog Assignment: Past Work

So these are out of order from when I designed them...but you can propbably figure it out.

Galerie ads: I think this piece showed that I have a fair hand at photography. Also, the ads represent everything coming together: the logo, typography, imagery, some comp work, brand identity, etc. I think I accomplished this well. Something I might do differently next time would be to plan out the photo shoot more--I got some really good shots, but I would have liked to have a better idea of what I was looking for going in rather than figuring out what I was doing afterward.

Walden book cover: This shows some different approaches to typography as well as illustration. I would like to work on the title letters more, though, and make the back cover less of an afterthought.

My personal logo. This is one of my favorites. I like how (not anymore, to me) to most people, the bird in the d counter is a little surprise. There's not much I would change about this...I think it's pretty great.

Galerie logo: This was a journey. I think it ended up clean and elegant, though. The 'boutique' was definitely a good plan. I'm not sure that I would change anything about this one either...

Expressive quote: I'm not sure that this was one of the things that got me into the program, but I definitely like it. In retrospect, I hope it doesn't seem like I just discovered Photoshop and started going crazy with filters and brushes...

Mantel Painting

The living room in my parents' house in Alpharetta is has some pretty impressive wall space--it might go up 20 feet or so. Ever since we moved here, it's been pretty obviously empty. A few years ago, when I first got into painting and still thought I was the shit, my mom asked me to do a significantly sized triptych of paintings for her to put up there. Then I realized how much I actually have to learn, and for a considerable amount of time, I would inwardly cringe every time I passed it or any time my parents pointed it out to guests. So, around last Christmas, I got some more canvases, and decided to start over, so to speak.
This has been in the making for about eight months (though by no means is that how long I've worked on it--there have been huuuuge gaps: working on portfolio, trips in the beginning of the summer, whenever I'm downtown...).  It's pretty much something I do when I'm bored or up late in Alpharetta. But now, surprise, surprise, I'm getting more tired of looking at the old painting than I am dissatisfied with this one, so I'm going to finish it up in the next week or so and start something else.
This looks a little weird because I didn't line them up right, but here's what I have so far:
